Health and Safety Policy

1.      Introduction:

This Policy has been prepared and adopted by Integrated United Professionals (IUPconsult). It has been adopted and signed off by the management. It is part of our procedure to inform all our partners in any association, consortium, sub-contractors and affiliated individual consultants to read, understand and accept this policy. We also communicate this policy to other stakeholders and clients as necessary.

This policy aims at setting the main principles to protect all our people and stakeholders from risks of occupational injury or ill health all over our work in serving the clients. It emphasizes the role of safe behavior by our team, affiliated consultants and partners.

2.     Objective of IUPconsult Health and Safety Policy:

This policy intends to establish an ongoing commitment to improving health and safety at work throughout our organization and work to ensuring a sustainable approach, this approach shall be demonstrated to and applies to all people who come into contact with the firm.

Safeguarding the health and safety of all our people and any other people who may be affected by our work activities at work will be achieved by complying with the best practices and requirements of health and safety local and international legislation.

We aim to promoting best practice and exceeding the guidance of the health and safety local practices and other regulatory bodies aiming to become a model in safety compliance. This policy reflects our commitment to ensuring that health and safety at work is paramount to the business, and that effective health and safety actively contributes to our success. We abide to the connection between health and safety and business performance.

3.    Tools and Techniques

  • Awareness: for each project we implement, we shall work to ensure that all our people and stakeholders are aware and understand health and safety hazards and risks that affect our business.
  1. We will provide adequate resources to ensure all our people, the sub-contractors and stakeholders are aware of this policy and committed to its effective implementation. This will apply to all people who come into contact with us (our partners and subcontractors), by this we shall work for a positive behavior change by going beyond raising awareness to secure commitment.
  2. We will adopt an open communication and consultation between all our people affiliated consultants, partners in consortium or association with IUPconsult, sub-contractors, and stakeholders. We will integrate health and safety into our communications, wherever appropriate. The communication shall be proactive two-way communication with the workforce/ stakeholders.
  3. We will clearly define roles and responsibilities for health and safety, as necessary, within the association, affiliation agreements and scope of work and the job descriptions or profiles.
  4. Our top management shall work to ensure that:
  • The clear and specified lines of accountability/ responsibility
  • Senior management behaviors demonstrate commitment
  • Adequate resources are provided for health and safety;
  • Health and safety is adequately assessed, controlled and monitored
  • Our people are actively involved on matters that affect health and safety.

 

  • Hazard identification: We will identify our workplace health and safety hazards, keep our people, consultants, partners, sub-contractors and stakeholders informed, as appropriate, of these workplace hazards while working to build a two-way communication of risk between management and workforce.

On the other hand, will request our sub-contractors and stakeholders to identify health and safety hazards that may impact our work activities and keep us informed.

  • Competence: “All our people and stakeholders have the competence to undertake their work with minimum risks to health and safety.”
  1. Health and safety training:

All our people will be adequately instructed and trained on the health and safety issues that affect them, and the safe working practices that should be followed aiming at ensuring complete competency

We will ensure the health and safety competence of our sub-contractors and stakeholders. Competency assurance also applies to sub- contractors

  1. Behavior and culture

Senior management will demonstrate leadership in health and safety.

Senior management will undertake tours to ensure that health and safety issues are identified, assessed and managed. Systems will be in place and people will be empowered to raise health and safety concerns with management.

  1. Risk assessment and management

We will assess the risks associated with health and safety hazards in the workplace. All our people will be informed of the health and safety hazards and risks that affect their work. We will take action to prevent, reduce or control risks to an acceptable level and reduce the potential for incidents and accidents. We will require our sub- contractors and stakeholders to identify health and safety risks that may impact on our work activities.

  • Compliance: “Our work activities achieve compliance with legislation, and our people are empowered to take action to minimize health and safety risks.” The activities will encourage workers to become proactive
  • Incident investigation: We will report and investigate accidents, incidents and near misses to drive improvement in our health and safety management. Any lessons learned from such events will be used to take corrective action to prevent recurrences. This will indicate intention for organizational learning
  • Measuring performance: We will actively and openly, review and report on our health and safety performance against published objectives and targets. We will target making monitoring transparent
  1. Improvement plans will be developed to support the delivery of these objectives and targets.
  2. Health and safety management system
    • We will implement management systems to ensure we:
  3. comply with health and safety legislation;
  4. fulfill the requirements of BS8800 and OHSAS18001; and
  5. continually improve our health and safety performance.
  • Affiliated Consultants, Partners and Sub-contractor improvement: We will engage and collaborate with our sub-contractors (expects same standards from them) to ensure their:
  1. health and safety capability and competence fulfil our expectations;
  2. health and safety performance is monitored and reviewed; and
  3. work activities have minimal health and safety impacts on our activities.
    • Excellence: IUPconsult is recognized for excellence in the way it manages health and safety by
  4. Developing innovative practices to fosters partnership learning we will constantly encourage, develop, review and share “health and safety good practice” both internally and externally.
  5. Influencing stakeholders: We will only work with joint venture partners and clients who are willing to meet and achieve our health and safety expectations. We will engage and influence stakeholders to drive improvements in health and safety.
    • Work-related health: We will assess our occupational health risks. All our people will be informed of the occupational health risks that affect their work. We will take action to prevent, reduce or control occupational health risks to an acceptable level and reduce the potential for ill health, including assessing all our people’s fitness for work. Health surveillance will be conducted to satisfy health and safety legislation. We will separate out occupational health risks for special consideration

4.    Approach to Policy Delivery

Our policy will be delivered by:

  • generating a culture that does not tolerate threats to health and safety; by that we will defines intended safety culture that is to be created, and
  • ensuring the real involvement of all our people, the sub- contractors and stakeholders.

Business groups will implement management statements that explain how this policy will be delivered in the workplace, and how to Plan for raising awareness of policy

5.    Update and Policy Review

This policy has immediate effect and replaces all previous versions.

This policy will be reviewed and amended, as necessary. We will commit to review policy in order to keep it relevant

6.    Safety Protective Equipment

We will request our team, workers, and consultants to abide to at least the safety Jackets. Other clothing and personal equipment will be used when necessary.

Personal equipment (PPE) is clothing or equipment that is designed to be worn by someone to protect him from the risk of injury or illness. Depending on the risk impact an d probability, this might include:

  1. hearing protective devices, such as ear muffs and ear plugs
  2. respiratory protective equipment
  3. eye and face protection, such as safety glasses and face shields
  4. safety helmets
  5. fall arrest harnesses for working at heights
  6. skin protection, such as gloves, gauntlets and sunscreen
  7. clothing, such as high visibility vests, life jackets and coveralls
  8. footwear, such as safety boots and rubber boots.
  9. Other systems including the safe scaffolding will be provided when necessary.

7.     Planning H&S for a Project

Each project depending on its location, scope and duration will be provided at least by the first aid equipment. A map and the address of the nearby health centers will be clearly announced in the sites.
